Synopsis of Went to a Garden Potty

Written by TK

Will goes to salvage what he can from his parents' house before they sell it as part of their separation, and brings back a garden gnome that holds lots of memories for him. When Will decides to make the gnome the center-piece of their living room, Grace is horrified and suggests that Will put it out in their long-ignored community garden plot. When Will and Grace go to put the gnome outside, they decide they should actually use their pathetic-looking garden plot and so they start gardening. When they try to be friendly to one of their fellow gardeners, he lashes out at them and tells them to leave him and his prize-winning lettuce alone. He also tells them to get rid of the ugly gnome. Will leaves Grace to go get some bug spray, and while battling a mosquito Grace accidentally breaks Will's gnome with a shovel. When Will returns, he is horrified, and immediately thinks to blame the guy that was so mean earlier. Grace, mortified, goes along with him, and tells him that she saw the mean guy break the gnome. Later that night, as Will is mournfully picking up pieces of his gnome, he decides to pee on his neighbor's prize-winning lettuce. Unfortunately, he is busted, and when he explains what he was doing and why, he asks Grace to back him up. Grace has to admit that she broke the gnome. Grace asks the mean guy why he's so mean, and he admits that he lost his job because he spent too much time with his lettuce... and he was embezzling a little. But it was mainly the lettuce. Everyone ends up in a supportive group hug.

One of Stan's old partners, Norman, comes to Karen and asks her to finance a local TV ad for his struggling mattress store. Karen agrees, and when Jack finds out he begs to be cast in the ad. Karen tells him that she's casting a straight couple, and Jack can't play straight, but he proves to her that he can by giving her a dramatic kiss. Jack gets the role, and he plays straight so well that he starts to worry that he might be type-cast in the future and never get to play a gay role. Jack tells Karen that he not only doesn't want to do another ad, but he wants her to take the current ad off the air. He and Karen argue, and he ends up leaving in a huff. Jack goes to his disapproving acting coach and proudly tells her how he turned down a paying job so as not to sacrifice his career goals. His acting coach tells him he was stupid and he should go beg for his job back. He begs, but Karen refuses, because she's already re-cast the role with herself.
